Grizzly Bear and the London Symphony Orchestra played the Barbican on Halloween. The stage was beautiful and the performances were amazing. A magical evening where you leave wishing that every gig could be that good.
I was pretty sure that I was totally in love with Thom Yorke's magnificant artistry and then I saw this video of a new song which includes him semi-berating people who talk during gigs. It was like falling in love all over again!
This song, 'Open the Floodgates', is excellent and my pick of the newies that he played at his recent Echoplex/Orpheum gigs.

The Monsters of Folk (Jim James, Conor Oberst, M.Ward and Mike Mogis) release their debut album on 9 September and I, for one, couldn't be more excited! They've already released three songs on iTunes (America) and they sound exactly like what you'd expect if you put these four musicians in a room together - and that is no bad thing!
Anyway, to whet your appetite here's a faithful and massively enjoyable cover of Dylan's "Girl From The North Country".

So Glastonbury is over for another year and what have we learned? That the BBC coverage was awful, that according to the Guardian Blur were the best headliners ever and that, as ever, it looked like a whole load of fun!
Although people would have you believe that Blur were the only thing to see on Sunday, I think I would've opted for The Prodigy... and judging by this video I wouldn't have regretted it - they look and sound brilliant!

My love for Grizzly Bear currently knows no bounds and it's enhanced by seeing live performances like this. The thought that they can do justice to the beautiful and intricate recorded music that they produce makes me even more excited to see them live in August! Yay!
Call it busy or call it lazy but whatever you call it - it's a new video.
Now, I would argue that this post does not come from a place of bias but I will acknowledge a soft spot for New Jersey's Holler, Wild Rose! (the punctuation can be a deal-breaker for some).
Whilst their debut album never really did capture how good a live band they are (you should still get it though - it's worth it for 'Captive Train' alone!) this video goes some way to indicating what, for me, they're all about.
This is the song that they take their name from and is their usual show-closer.
You still have to go to their show to feel the full My Bloody Valentine-esque sonic assault in all its glorious loudness though.

You may already know that the only way that I could love Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles more was if they suddenly became Radiohead - obviously that isn't going to happen so I'll just have to be content with my huge man crush on all of them!
This is Dan Rossen (of both bands) covering JoJo's 'Too Little, Too Late' for the New Yorker's Valentine's Day event in DUMBO at the request of Grizzly Bear bandmate, and pop fanatic, Ed Droste.
It is pretty damn great. This'll be stuck in your head for days!

I have recently reacquainted myself with the glorious 'Kid A' album and in particular these two tracks. These videos are taken from their Saturday Night Live performance from around the time of the record's release and... well... just watch.
There is beauty in this world if you know where to look... and listen.
This is a new one from La Blogotheque and their Take-Away Shows series. Honestly, I spend way too much of my time re-watching some of the performances that they've captured.
Sigur Ros are nothing if not amazing and, despite the clientele of this old Parisian cafe being seemingly unimpressed, this is brilliant. Enjoy.

The Daily Show is flat-out brilliant for many reasons; the number one reason being Jon Stewart. This is five minutes of funny, clever, incisive and dumb satirical comedy.
The squares who said The Daily Show wouldn't be funny with a Democratic President are very very wrong.

I've already posted Kid Cudi's video for Day 'N' Night on this very blog and offered the opinion that he's going to be huge this year. I'm really not sure that I could dig Cudi any more than I do right now!
Now, in case you didn't or don't believe me or value Victoria Hesketh's (Little Boots) opinion over mine then here's her quiet take on his lyrically sombre tune. Incidentally, Little Boots is tipped to be big this year too and though I don't really care too much about that I am enjoying this.
